How Can Mindfulness Help You and Your Children?

(Watch the video or read the transcript below)

How can mindfulness can help you and your children? Well, to answer that question we need to know what mindfulness is and what mindfulness benefits are.

Mindfulness is being presently aware right here, right now. Aware of what? Aware of your thoughts, aware of your feelings, aware of what you are presently doing, aware of who you are presently with.

What are mindfulness benefits? Some of the potential benefits of mindfulness include lowering stress, decreasing depression, improving memory, strengthening your relationships, improved academic success, boosting resilience and more as noted by Positive Psychology.com.

How can you the parent bring more mindfulness into you and your children’s day?

First, take time in your day to pause with your children. That’s it. Simply pause during your day to have you and your children observe what you’re each thinking and how you’re each feeling. This is just for observing. If you want to talk about what you observed you can.

Second, be mindful of what you’re doing presently with your children. That means not letting your mind wander. Only think about what you are both doing at that moment. By doing this with your children, both of you can practice being mindful together.

Third, meditate together. You can start off with a couple minutes and as you and your children practice being still and mindful, add a minute to your meditation time.
